Red Wing School Board briefs
Board OK's contract extension for First Student
Red Wing School Board voted 6-0 to approve a new two-year contract with First Student to provide student transportation. Consultants with the Center for Efficient School Operations negotiated the terms of the new contract.
The new contract calls for a 1.7 percent increase to First Student's daily rates for 2013-14 and another 1.7 percent increase for 2014-15. In the current contract, First Student had agreed to a 2 percent rate decrease.
"We find these to be reasonable increases and the rates stay in line with rates in other contract areas," CESO consultants Chuck Corliss and Mike Brabender said in a memo to the board.
The contract includes the addition of cameras in all route busses. The cameras will be funded by First Student.
Board member Mike Christensen left the meeting just before the discussion and vote on the contract.
PA hired for employer-sponsored clinic
Health Partners, the district's health insurance provider, has hired physician assistant Melissa Kluesner to staff the district's employer-sponsored health clinic, Finance Director Brad Johnson said as he updated the board on the clinic's progress Monday evening.
Kluesner is currently employed by Mayo Clinic Health System in Red Wing and works in urgent care, Mayo Clinic's website says. She will be trained for the new position by Health Partners, Johnson said.
The clinic space at 410 Guernsey Lane is being renovated. Johnson said the space will be completed by June 1. The clinic should officially open around mid-June, Johnson said, depending on when Kluesner will be able to start her new position.
Monday's meeting lasted about 1.5 hours. All board members were present.
