Red Wing Public Library Zoo Man visits
Red Wing Public Library
Children's author coming on July 26
Northfield author and illustrator Marie Fritz Perry will present a program at 10:30 a.m. July 26 at the Red Wing Public Library. She is the author of two children's books: "Cecil's New Year's Eve Tale" and "A Gift for Sadia."
"A Gift for Sadia" was inspired by the experience of immigrant children in the Rochester schools and features Sadia, a Somali girl.
This is a family program, suitable for all ages and is free and open to the public. Refreshments will be served.
The Lovelacers Lunch Brunch will meet at the Red Wing Public Library from noon to 1:30 p.m. July 23.
Find out what it's like to be part of an animal rescue team in "Jackie's Wild Seattle," by Will Hobbs.
Is Noah going to get caught trying to prove the gambling boat is really dumping their sewage right into the ocean in "Flush," by Carl Hiaasen?
Experience lunch counter sit-ins in the historical novel "Scraps of Time," by Patricia McKissack.
These are just a few of the books nominated for the Maud Hart Lovelace Book Award. You can get a jump on these by joining the Lovelacers Lunch Bunch at the Red Wing Public Library. Read at least one book ahead of time. There will be a book discussion with related activities from noon to 1:30 p.m.
Bring a bag lunch. Cookies and lemonade will be provided. This is for children going into third, fourth, or fifth grade.
The llama is ahead
The Red Wing Public Library summer program is half over, and the participants are having a busy summer reading and feeding the llama, goat, and water buffalo with the pretend dollars they earn for reading. At this point in time, the llama is ahead, followed by the water buffalo and goat.
Friends of the Library will match the dollars earned so the animal with the most votes can be purchased through Heifer International for a family in need. So far $168 has been earned. This is enough to buy either a llama or goat.
