Red Wing residents may soon see a familiar face on their television screens during sporting events and on social media sites.

Kendall Mark, who grew up in Red Wing, was named the next Fox Sports North Girl this week. She beat out nearly 150 women from across the state vying for the spot.

"It was such a rigorous process," Mark said. "I was so excited when I found out."

The Fox Sports North Girls interact with fans at games and on social media and also do promotions and some charity work.

"The Fox Sports North Girls are the connection between Fox Sports North, the teams and the fans," Mark said.

Mark will join the three existing Fox Sports North Girls, and she said they all are already getting along well.

The interaction with viewers and sports fans gets Mark most excited for the job, she said. The Fox Sports North Girls connect with fans via Facebook, Twitter and other social media.

"I really love talking to people," Mark said. "Getting that back and forth from people who love Minnesota sports is an awesome thing."

On her first day Thursday, Mark dove right in with appearances on radio shows and the State Fair.

"It was very crazy, but it was really fun," Mark said.

That describes much of the process Mark went through to get the job.

Applicants sent in a one-minute video and photographs of themselves, and Mark moved on from there to the top 20. That's when she had interviews with Fox officials and did some test camera appearances, script readings and photos, Mark said.

After she made it in to the top 10, people were able to vote for their favorite applicants. That was a part of the selection process, Mark said, along with another phone interview and other factors.

Mark said she is grateful for all the people who voted for her.

"It's been so great," she said. "The amount of support from people through the whole thing was just phenomenal."

The position is a full-time commitment, but that is a good thing, Mark said.

"I know I already love it," she said. "Hopefully I do really well with it."

Mark and the other Fox Sports North Girls will make two more appearances at the Minnesota State Fair, Aug. 29 and 31. They will be at the Fox Sports North booth at 1311 Underwood St.
