Senior expo is next week
Experience the event featuring advice on how you can age gracefully and have fun while doing it. Spring 50+ Primetime Living Expo is April 30 and May 1 at Treasure Island Resort & Casino.
Lori Campbell, gerontologist and an Amazon best-selling author, will speak. Expect shopping, free seminars and entertainment, including free screenings of "Age of Champions."
The expo runs from 1 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday. Cost $6. For more information, please visit www.ageofchampions.org.
How does my heart work?
Attend the informative session "How does my heart work?" at 1 p.m. Tuesday April 30. Jeanette Matuska, certified medical laboratory technician, explains the anatomy and physiology of the heart in an easy to understand way.
Make memory bears and pillows
When a loved one passes away, deciding what to do with their belongings can be difficult -- from grandpa's shirt to grandma's apron. Now these items can be made into treasured keepsakes.
The Senior Center has seamstresses who transform the personal items into a memory bear or memory pillow. Most orders take a month to complete. They are $45 for bear, $35 for a pillow.
Seniors Helping Seniors offers support
Seniors Helping Seniors peer support volunteers are skilled and committed to helping other seniors who are experiencing distress in their lives. If you need someone to talk to or you know someone who does, contact Robin Wipperling at 651-385-3456.
Gentle Yoga for Seniors
Learn gentle yoga positions, start anytime, with certified yoga instructor Michelle Hoffman, 9:30 to 10:45 a.m. Tuesdays. Cost for six sessions is $45 for individuals, $80 for couples.
Yoga can reduce chronic health conditions, improve sleep, increase energy, restore balance, improve attitude and overall quality of life. Start anytime.
The following games will be played: 500 -- 1 p.m. Monday April 22; Scrabble -- 1 p.m. Wednesdays; Fun Bridge --- 10 a.m. Wednesdays; Chess -- 1 p.m. Thursdays
Foot care available
The foot care clinic is Thursdays from 1 to 3:30 p.m. with a home health nurse. To schedule an appointment, call Red Wing Homecare and Hospice at 651-385-3410. The cost is $34.
Medical equipment available
Gently used medical equipment is available at the Senior Center to use for up to three months during a period of medical convalescence or short-term disability.
Items include wheelchairs, walkers, crutches, shower chairs, commodes and more. If you need something, visit or call the center. A $20 donation is requested to help with the ongoing program costs.
Jordan Towers are located in the 400 block of West Fifth Street in downtown Red Wing. All events listed are held at Jordan Tower I or II unless otherwise noted.
Help out making cards
The craft group meets at 1 p.m. Wednesdays to make recycled greeting cards. Donations of old greeting cards and volunteers to assemble them are welcomed. Recycled cards are for sale from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. every day at the Jordan Tower II Sailstad Room.
