Red Wing Ace Hardware emphasizes service
Editor's note: This is the fourth of five stories profiling award-winning businesses honored at Red Wing Area Chamber of Commerce's annual meeting.
Good customer service is hard find, according to Lisa Daniels.
Which is why she and her husband, Troy, strive to provide "impeccable" service to their customers at Ace Hardware in Red Wing.
"We appreciate that people come in. We don't expect them to come in," she said.
In January, Red Wing Area Chamber of Commerce named Ace Hardware its retailer of the year. The main reason for the award? "(Ace Hardware) has the best customer service. They can answer questions and make sure you get exactly what you need," wrote the nominator, whom the chamber keeps a secret.
Daniels said she appreciates the recognition for something she and her husband have been doing for years.
"It gives you a boost (and) always makes you work harder to keep up with what people expect," she said.
The Daniels have each worked at Ace Hardware for over 20 years. When they started, the business was a Coast-to-Coast, located on Bush Street and owned by Lisa's parents.
The store became Ace Hardware in 1995, and moved to its current location at 1264 West Main St. in 1999. The Daniels bought the business from Lisa's parents in 2007.
So what makes the Daniels' brand of customer service exceptional?
"I try to make people know that we like them (being) here," Lisa Daniels said.
She says she knows most of her customers by name. On top of that, the Daniels educate their employees to be able to answer questions and be knowledgeable about their products.
"We just treat people well, get them what they need, thank (them) and hope they come back," she said.
