Prescott rallies to beat Ellsworth 8-6
ELLSWORTH - Even a 6-1 lead in eighth inning was not secure enough for the Ellsworth Hubbers.
Prescott rallied for four runs in the eighth and ninth innings to beat Ellsworth 8-6 Wednesday evening at Young Field.
Ellsworth pitcher Britton Wolf pitched through six innings and Hubs' first baseman J.P Paulson hit two homers and drove in three runs.
But Prescott loaded the bases in the top of the eighth for Nick Johnson to clear with a double. Johnson himself scored on an RBI-single by Jim French and Pirates were within one at 6-5. Winning pitcher Eric Monson held Ellsworth in check in their half of the eighth which was enough for Prescott to take the lead in the ninth. Chris Terrazas nailed an RBI-single with two on, Billy Brookshaw scored on a bases-loaded walk and Jim French hit a sacrifice RBI. Ellsworth Switched pitchers from Wolf to Cody Holden, who took the loss but it wasn't enough.
Ellsworth had runners at second and third in the bottom of the ninth but could not get them across. Prescott helped itself with a 4-3 double play earlier in the inning.
Prescott still stays in control of the St. Croix Division with a 7-1 record while Ellsworth is behind at 6-3. Ellsworth is back in action Saturday night against St. Croix Falls staring at 7:30 p.m. Prescott has a doubleheader at Chaseburg-Coon Valley this Saturday starting at noon.
