ELLSWORTH, Wis. - Defense has helped Prescott High School's girls basketball team win five straight games and defense was on display for the Cardinals in a 52-20 win over Highway 10 rival Ellsworth Tuesday.

Ellsworth had one of its best games on offense in the first half since beating Cannon Falls back on Nov. 30. They trailed the Cardinals by a manageable 28-15 margin at halftime. But Prescott's press smothered Ellsworth in the second half, outscoring them 24-5.

Katy Syverson and Kellie Magee led the Cardinals in scoring off of steals with 14 and 13 points respectively. Elly Boles finished with six points for Prescott, 5-1 overall and 4-1 in the Middle Border Conference.

Kelsey Betthauser led Ellsworth, 1-6 overall and 0-4 in the MBC, in scoring with eight points while Michaela DeGross finished with four points.
