Prescott girls outlast Ellsworth for 35-24 win

PRESCOTT - Prescott High School's girls' basketball team struggled to beat Ellsworth last Tuesday but eventually got the job done.

The Cardinals, who lost a grueling overtime game to River Falls just 24 hours before, fell behind Ellsworth 14-7 in the second quarter as Panthers made several three-pointers to break out to the lead.

But as soon as the Cards got their legs under them they bagen to rally. PHS outscored EHS 9-1 to take a 16-15 lead at halftime. Prescott then outscored the Panthers 19-9 in the second half. Ellsworth was hurt by turnovers but also by several missed shots close to the basket.

Prescott's Cassie Murphy led all scorers with 16 points and teammate Emily Bayer finished with six points. Tacia Kuhl had eight points to lead Ellsworth and Kelsey Betthauser finished with seven points.

Prescott improved to 11-7 overall and 7-4 in the Middle Border Conference. Ellsworth drops to 1-15 overall and 0-11 in the MBC. Prescott plays at Durand Friday and Ellsworth hosts Somerset.
