Pianist Chouinard, soprano Jette coming to Crossings Jan. 10
"Working with soprano Maria Jette is like riding on the back of a Vespa through the streets of Rome," according to pianist Dan Chouinard. "You're pulled along behind her impulsive fascination with all the things that pop into her head."
Chouinard and Jette will present a dual performance at 7:30 p.m. Jan. 10 at Crossings at Carnegie. The show will combine his keyboard virtuosity with her vivacious singing, Crossings spokesmen said.
The two have worked together regularly over the years, ever since she came to sing arias for his Italian class at the University of Minnesota 1990.
Every summer they present the critically acclaimed "Sopranorama" at the Southern Theater in Minneapolis along with Molly Sue McDonald and Janis Hardy.
In addition, they have appeared together in concert halls throughout the state and on radios nationwide as guests on "A Prairie Home Companion."
Chouinard is a Minneapolis native who plays, tours and records regularly with local and national performers. He regularly creates special programs for Minnesota Public Radio which blend storytelling, interviews and music.
Jette has appeared with orchestras from around the country, including the Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra, Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra, Minnesota Orchestra, and ensembles in Houston, Kansas City and many other cities. Also, she has performed her own production of Dr. Seuss's "Green Eggs & Ham" for more than 40,000 children around the country.
Locally, she is often heard with VocalEssence and the Chamber Music Society of Minnesota.
Tickets are $18 in advance, $20 at the door. Visit Crossings at Carnegie at 320 East Ave. or call (507) 732-7616 for reservations.
