PHS, EHS have state track qualifiers, champs
MEDFORD - Prescott and Ellsworth will have a good share of state qualifiers for next weekend's state track meet in La Crosse. They advanced through the WIAA Division 2 Medford Sectional Thursday.
Pierce County's sectional champs in the meet were Ellsworth's Alex Campbell and Prescott's 3200-meter relay team. Campbell won the both the high jump and triple jump and also qualified in the long jump by finishing fourth. The PHS 3200-meter relays team of Amanda Murphy, Autumn Stees, Victoria Simones and Emily Bayer set a new school record of 9:54.89.
Simones also qualified in the mile run by finishing third. Prescott's boys team also qualified its 3200 relay team and Matt Pechacek in the 800 as he finished fourth.
Ellsworth's girls team will have as state qualifiers Lydia Kuhl, Abbey Ristow and Olivia Helmer. Kuhl took fourth in the 300-meter low hurdles, Ristow was second in the discus and Helmer was fourth in the triple jump.
EHS's girls were 11th and Prescott 15th in the team standings. Ellsworth's boys' made the top 10 finishing 7th out of the 32 schools scoring points in the meet while Prescott was 15th.
