Panthers send 4 to state

MADISON -- Ellsworth placed four wrestlers in the finals of the WIAA State Individual Wrestling Tournament.

While Jordan Foy will go after the 125-pound championship, three other Panthers will compete for third or fifth place today.

Chace Kinneman fell in his semifinals match to Dodgeville's Grant Sutter 10-0 at 103. He won his first match in the quarterfinals 5-0 over Freedom's Jake Kleuskens. Kinneman will take on Jordan Poirer of Bloomer in a consolation match.

Hayden Hauschildt trailed Waukesha Catholic Memorial's Eric Baez 6-2 in the third period of their 130-pound consolation semifinal, but Hauschildt scored a takedown that led to a pin in 5:12.

He faces Winneconne's Luke Harness today. Hauschildt was pinned himself earlier Friday in 3:36 by Adams-Friendship's Matt Theisen in the quarterfinals.

Jeremy Nelson lost in the 171 semis to J.C. Francois of Sugar River 8-0. Nelson won earlier in the day 4-0 over Denmark's Joey Lott. His Saturday morning match pits him against Jon Volpentesta of Pewaukee.

Two Ellsworth wrestlers were eliminated from competition. Shawn Helmueller lost to defending champion Zac Cibula of Luxemburg-Casco's by pin in 3:05, despite leading Cibula 3-2 after a flip move from his back gave him a takedown. Helmueller then lost to Monroe's Bobby Bennett 9-7 after a takedown he scored came too late to get back points.

Derek Foley also had a late takedown that came too late for victory as he fell to Gillett-Suring's Brandon Olson 5-4.
