Out and out(door) winners
The Plein Air Art and Music Festival ran June 24-29 and produced some excellent work, the show's judge said.
Painting was held throughout town and the region - all based out of the Red Wing Arts Association.
Scott Lloyd Anderson of Minneapolis served as Plein Air judge. For Lloyd, nature "never fails to deliver inspiration and challenges to an artist - views to paint wherever you look, constantly changing color, light, and atmosphere. Cold and wind. Bugs."
The results from this year's festival have been announced.
"This show is an outstanding representation of plein air art," Lloyd said.
En Plein air is a French expression meaning to paint in the open air.
The Red Wing Arts Association Plein Air Art and Music Festival featured more than 40 artists from the region. The event is judged in numerous categories.
"This was a great year for plein air. The weather cooperated so the paintings are bright, light and full of sunshine," said Arlene Roth, assistant director of RWAA.
As Lloyd presented the awards, he talked in detail about each of the works and the technique that earned the award.
Red Wing Arts Association Plein Air Art and Music Festival is recognized as a premier outdoor painting event in the upper Midwest. Full details on this and other art events can be found at www.redwingartsassociation.org or by calling 651-388-7569.
