One injured in suspected DWI crash

A Red Wing man was injured Saturday night after allegedly stealing a vehicle and driving drunk, Goodhue County Sheriff's Office reported.

Emery Preston Lafferty, 22, 1814 Bush St., was driving southbound on Circle Drive in Welch Township at about 10:22 p.m. when he lost control going around a curve. The vehicle went into the ditch and landed on its side in some trees. Lafferty sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was transported by Red Wing Ambulance to Mayo Clinic Health System in Red Wing.

Subsequently, Lawrence Wakemup, Welch Township, reported the vehicle Lafferty had been driving -- a 2012 Chrysler 300 -- as stolen. Wakemup told police that Lafferty had been drunk earlier that evening and Wakemup instructed him not to drive.

After being released from the medical center, Lafferty was booked into Goodhue County Adult Detention Center on auto theft, fourth-degree DWI, driving after suspension charges.
