Ole Miss will be run by city
The city of Red Wing will take over operation of the Ole Miss Marina.
Discussions about the marina had been ongoing, but last week the manager resigned, speeding up the decision process, City Council and Port Authority Board members said this week.
The port previously was responsible for running the marina. But those operations didn't seem to fit with the Port Authority's goal of economic development and took employees' time from that work, port board president Mike Grove said at the board's Tuesday meeting.
The city will take over day-to-day operations and recreational aspects, but the port would retain control of commercial leases.
There are still details to be worked out, council and port members said, but the resolution approved by the port board Tuesday sets up the general framework of the shift.
