Nancy Harris of 1204 South Park St., Red Wing, died at home after a long and painful struggle with malignant melanoma on Wednesday evening, July 24.
She had long served in a wide variety of community activities (City Council, Library Board, Charter Commission, Chamber of Commerce, League of Women Voters, PFLAG, Dawnbreakers Kiwanis) and was an architectural designer, an internet news coordinator, and, until arthritis intervened, an excellent pianist. A cremation ceremony is planned.
Her family (husband, three children, sons-in-law, grandson, and two dogs) with her many friends and neighbors are planning a memorial celebration for late August at the Stoneyend Hobgoblin Music Barn to be conducted by Bishop Regina Nicolosi and Rev. Carmen Edwards. People will be invited to share memories of Nancy - tales, songs, jokes, stories - and what a delight she was.
An open house at the Harris home during the same period will be a more extended time for family and friends to enjoy each other's food and company. Meanwhile, people are invited, rather than sending food or flowers, to make a small gift in Nancy's name to your own favorite charity or to one of her favorites, such as NOW (National Organization for Women), PFLAG, League of Women Voters, or Planned Parenthood.
