MPR regulars pair up for concert

Vocalist Prudence Johnson and pianist/accordionist Dan Chouinard will appear in concert at 8 p.m. July 10 at Crossings at Carnegie in Zumbrota.

The two have much in common -- including appearances on Minnesota Public Radio --which is evident in their performances of music by George Gershwin and others.

Both also took part in the making of the movie, "A Prairie Home Companion."

Johnson appears more regularly on Garrison Keillor's MPR radio show and was filmed for the movie. Chouinard served as rehearsal accompanist for Meryl Streep and others stars in the film.

She found an ideal collaborator in Chouinard, Johnson said. They released "Gershwin" in 2004, and now appear together across the country, performing the music of Carmichael, Gershwin and other greats.

They also take side trips to the café music of France and Italy with Chouinard on accordion.

He and Johnson co-wrote and perform "Another Song About Paris," a loving look at the City of Light through stories and songs.

Concert tickets are $20 in advance, $22 at the door. Call 507-732-7616 or visit Crossings at 320 East Ave. in Zumbrota. For more information, go online to
