Missoula actor-directors will hold open auditions from 4 to 6 p.m. Monday at the Sheldon to select about 50 young people for the cast. All students in Red Wing School District are eligible to participate. For details, call the theater.

In the modern Missoula adaptation of the familiar fairy tale, Red Riding Hood isn't so little any more, and she and her pre-teen pals struggle to stay on the straight and narrow path as Red travels over the river and through the woods to Grandmother's house.

The Big Bad Wolf, who is not so bad after all, and a friendly neighborhood Forest Ranger urge the young heroes to stay true to the path, for in the Shadows lurk diversions and a sinister surprise or two.

A pack of woefully nasty young wolves and a handsome Woodsman who is too good to be true are essential characters in the story.

And since it's a wolf tale there'll also be Three Little Pigs and even a Boy Who Cries ... you guessed it, Sheldon officials said.

"With help from her family and a loyal young Locksmith -- he carries the key -- Red finds her Grandma and a whole lot more. Now if only she could retrieve her picnic basket from those rascally Raccoons," spokesmen added. "Life is no picnic when you stray from the trail."

Tickets are $10 for adults and $6 for students. Call (651) 388-8700 or (800) 899-5759, or go on the Internet at www.sheldontheatre.org.
