Mining panel says no to longer moratorium
The Goodhue County Mining Committee voted 7-2 Monday not to recommend extending a countywide mining moratorium for another year, but concluded further study should be done on property setbacks and the impact of mining on tourism.
The Mining Committee's recommendations will be forwarded to the Planning Advisory Commission July 15 before a final vote by County Board Aug. 6.
The current Goodhue County mining moratorium expires Sept. 6.
UPDATE: The Goodhue County Board agenda's future meetings calendar incorrectly listed the date of the Planning Advisory Commission workshop as July 16. The commission will meet 6 p.m. July 15.
