Maurice G. Hoffman, 87, formerly of Maiden Rock
Maurice G. Hoffman, 87, a resident of the Heritage of Elmwood Nursing Home and formerly of Maiden Rock, died Oct. 20. Born Sep. 21, 1921, in rural Maiden Rock to John and Vivian (Adams) Hoffman, he graduated from Maiden Rock High School.
@death of veteran: He entered the U.S. Navy during World War II, with a rank of MMS 2/class. He was a member of Post 158, William. E. Geer American Legion in Maiden Rock. After his military discharge, he attended Augsburg College in Minneapolis for a short time before beginning his career with the railroad. He first worked with the Milwaukee Road and later with the Soo Line. In 1949, he married Phyllis Schwensen. They made their home in Minneapolis. After retiring in 1982 as a switchman for the Soo Line, the couple returned to his family home and cared for her mother and three of their grandchildren.
@Normal: He loved the Maiden Rock area and shared its history with many. In 2004, he moved to Heritage of Elmwood Nursing Home, suffering from Alzheimer's. He enjoyed music and was an avid outdoorsman.
Survivors include his daughter, Carla (Darrell) Schuster of Maiden Rock; son, Loren Hoffman of McIntosh, Minn.; and daughter, Vicki Musech of Bloomington, Minn.; nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife; sister, Laura Nolan; and brothers George, Clifford, H. Wayne, Robert and Russell.
Visitation will be from 2 to 5 p.m. Saturday at the Bakken-Young Funeral Home in Maiden Rock. Private interment will be in Maiden Rock Cemetery.
