Margot Elisabeth Knopp, 80, Red Wing, died Thursday at Fairview Red Wing Medical Center. Born March 31, 1928, in Wiesbaden, Germany, the daughter of Fredrick and Elisabeth (Brinkmann) Menger, she graduated from high school in Germany, immigrated to the United States in 1948 and became a U. S. citizen in 1952. She lived in Winona, Minn. She married Michael Knopp in 1959 and they lived in Minneapolis and Chicago before moving to Red Wing in 1967. She was a member of the Church of Saint Joseph and the American Legion Auxiliary. She enjoyed reading, gardening and traveling, having returned to Germany many times.
Survivors include her husband, Michael of Red Wing; three children, Elaine (Raymond) Haydock of Twin Lakes, Wis., Elizabeth Knopp of Red Wing, and Michael of West Yellowstone, Mont.; two grandchildren; cousins, one aunt and other relatives. She was preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters.
Memorial service will be 11 a.m. Monday at the Church of Saint Joseph with the Rev. Thomas M. Kommers officiating. Burial will be in Burnside Cemetery. Honorary pallbearers will be Adam and April Haydock and Gary Nold. Visitation will be 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday at the Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel and on Monday for one hour prior to the service at the church. Memorials are preferred to the donor's choice.
