Man dies after being struck by garbage truck
A 53-year-old man died today as a result of injuries incurred after being struck by a garbage truck in Cannon Falls Township, the Goodhue County Sheriff's Office reported.
According to a statement from the sheriff, the driver of a Waste Management garbage truck stopped to make a pick up on 90th Avenue Way at about 9:50 a.m. After putting the truck in neutral and applying the air brakes, both the driver and passenger got out of the vehicle to pick up cans. The driver went to the rear of the vehicle while the passenger went to the front.
The driver noticed the garbage truck rolling forward but his partner was struck before he could warn him.
The passenger was transported by Cannon Falls Ambulance to the Cannon Falls Hospital where he was pronounced dead. His name is not yet being released.
Cannon Falls Police Department, Cannon Falls Fire Department and Cannon Falls First Responders also responded to the scene. The Minnesota State Patrol will perform a commercial vehicle inspection on the garbage truck.
