Man charged with felony burglary
A Red Wing man has been charged with felony second- and third-degree burglary after allegedly attempting to break into a residence. Riley John Steinhauer, 20, is also facing a felony possession of burglary tools charge and two misdemeanor drug charges.
According to a court complaint filed Monday, Red Wing Police officers were dispatched to East Seventh Street after a woman reported that a man was trying to break the window on her neighbor's residence. They found Steinhauer, no known address, attempting to pry open a basement window of 510 E. Seventh St. Officers also found an ice pick, a screwdriver and a capped syringe in Steinhauer's pockets.
Steinhauer told police that his father had kicked him out of the house that morning, and that he was attempting to break in because he had to use the bathroom.
Steinhauer will make his first court appearance July 12.
