According to a court complaint, Prebe brought the dog, Zoey, to the Bluffs Pet Clinic in Red Wing with a broken front leg on Sept. 5, 2012. Clinic employees stated that Prebe told them the dog was injured falling out of a kennel that had been stacked on top of a second kennel.

Clinic staff told investigators that Prebe had also brought the dog in on Aug. 17. X-rays taken at that appointment showed that the left side of the dog's pelvis was fractured, among other injuries.

At that time, Prebe also told staff that the dog had also been injured two weeks prior, but he had taken her to an e-clinic in Rochester.

On Sept. 7, 2013, Prebe told a representative from the Humane Society of Goodhue County that Zoey had been injured when she was wrestling with his other two dogs and fell down the stairs.

However, when questioned by investigators, Prebe admitted that he had kicked the dog numerous times, held her mouth shut on multiple occasions and "threw her across the room more than a couple times," the complaint states.

Prebe went on to say that he hurt the dog because of mental and verbal abuse he gets from his father. He said in the complaint that he "takes out his anger with his father on the dog."

Zoey was surrendered to the Humane Society of Goodhue County. She was then taken to a metro-area animal hospital for surgery to repair her injuries.

Prebe's next court appearance is scheduled for Sept. 26.
