Letter: MNGL benefits youths
My name is Nancy Golliday and I attended Red Wing High School from 1974-1976 and was a member of the high school boys golf team. I then attended the University of Minnesota for four years and played on the women's golf team as a full scholarship member of the team.
As a high school and college golfer, I know the value of a full service golf course. A young golfer needs a driving range, putting green, sand bunkers and an opportunity to practice regularly.
Mississippi National Golf Course has been that kind of home course for the Red Wing high school golfers. When I played for Red Wing, our practice facility was the football field. Since its closing, the number of young golfers in the Red Wing area has significantly declined.
The Red Wing City Council needs to approve the reopening of Mississippi National Golf Course in order to give these young adults an opportunity to practice and play the wonderful game of golf.
