Letter: Lovely day, growing results

To the Editor:

The CROP Walk for 2013 was a grand success. On Oct. 6 on a lovely fall day, 150 citizens of Red Wing walked to raise funds for hunger relief in Red Wing and around the world. At the Minnesota Correctional Facility-Red Wing, 78 residents walked on Oct 17.

Between the two walks $12,151 was raised. Another $1,000 has been pledged in matching funds from Thrivent Financial, bringing our total to over $13,000. Of those funds, 25 percent will remain in Red Wing and Lake City to support local food shelves.

Seven churches from Red Wing and Lake City organized and supported the walk. Private citizens walked and donated. Staff at the Correctional Facility provided cooperation and support, and Pastor Jack Nordgaard coordinated the fundraising.

During the last eight years over $109,000 has been raised for CWS/CROP. Thank you to the community for your great support and commitment to relieve hunger here at home and in distant countries.
