Letter: Help celebrate Hispanic heritage
This month is the anniversary of independence of Mexico as well as five other Latin American countries: Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras and Nicaragua. Hispanic Heritage Month is the 30 days between Sept. 15 and Oct. 15 and it is when America celebrates the culture and traditions of those who trace their ancestry to Spain, Mexico and the Spanish-speaking countries of Central America, South America and the Caribbean.
Please join the Red Wing Latino community and the members and supporters of the Hispanic Outreach Program at a celebration of Latino music 7 p.m. Saturday Sept. 28 at Clayton Hovda Hall at the Red Wing High School.
Son del Sur is a Latin American musical group that will perform traditional Latino songs and demonstrate traditional Latino musical instruments.
Nicolas Carter, a Paraguayan harpist, leads the group and he combines his passion for Latin American music with his desire to promote understanding and peace in the world. Nicolas plays the harp regularly at concerts throughout the United States; he has been performing professionally since 1988.
Tickets are available by calling Hispanic Outreach office at 651-301-2184. Tickets will also be available at the door for $10 per adult and $25 per family.
Son del Sur performed at the Sheldon Auditorium in 2011 and Hispanic Outreach is happy to bring this family entertainment back to the Red Wing community. Please come and celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month with your friends and neighbors.
Joanne Pohl serves on the Hispanic Outreach Board of Directors.
