Letter: Give blood at new donation site and help save lives

To the Editor:

I extend my sincere thanks to the United Lutheran Church and the Red Wing community for their past and continuing dedication to donating blood with the American Red Cross.

Since 2000, United Lutheran has graciously hosted Red Cross blood drives. Without the support of sponsors and donors, we would not be able to fulfill our lifesaving mission of providing blood products to patients in need.

Thousands of pints of lifesaving blood have been donated by the Red Wing community over the years. Red Cross blood drives give donors a chance to help save lives and make a difference to patients at more than 100 hospitals within the area and patients who travel regionally for specialized medical care.

We are excited that our partnership with the Red Wing community continues. Due to existing space and site constraints at United Lutheran, future Red Wing community blood drives will be held across the street at First Lutheran Church, 615 W. Fifth St. St. Paul’s Lutheran Church will continue to host regularly scheduled drives at that location as well.

Because summertime often results in a decline in blood donations, I encourage all eligible donors to make an appointment at the next blood drive — June 5 from 1 to 7 p.m. and June 6 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. — at First Lutheran Church. Simply call 1-800-RED CROSS (1-800-733-2767) or visit to make an appointment or for more information.

Our heartfelt thanks go out to the entire Red Wing community for supporting our lifesaving mission. We greatly appreciate your giving spirit. Together we can make a difference — one donation at a time.
