Letter: City staff do exemplary job, deserve our praise

To the Editor:

It's time the city of Red Wing receives some praise. The unprecedented heavy May snow fall has been a real test of its many services, which have been constrained, like those of all cities across the country, by the heavy cost of nagging economic recession and heavy expenditures on national security and military services.

` Our local government has come through with flying colors. In particular, the Red Wing Public Works Department's doing a fantastic job, beyond its excellent garbage and waste disposal functions, of clearing away fallen trees and heavy branches and keeping schools, roads and public parkways open.

I hope the public will remember this when complaints about high taxes and poor service arise again, as they inevitably will. Thanks, especially, to the hard working men and women who work so hard throughout the year to keep our city beautiful.
