Kite workshop geared to kids
Looking for a quick creative workshop for kids? Send them to Red Wing Arts Association's summer workshop for children Saturday June 29.
From 9 a.m. to noon, local artist/educators Peg Hansen and Jude Rooney present Explore Bird Kites.
Participants will create a bird design similar to the bird kites on cloth bags that they will take home. They will also help with the painting of the bird kites that will be part of the Red Wing Depot Gallery decorations on weekends during the summer.
During the workshop, Hansen and Rooney will talk about the importance of birds in the ecosystem.
While the children are participating in the kite workshop, adults can watch the final Red Wing Plein Air activity, a Quick Paint.
The plein air artists will have two hours to create a painting. A bell is rung to start the painting at 9 a.m. and again at 11 a.m. to stop. Artists have 30 minutes to frame their work and submit it for the Quick Paint competition.
The Explore Bird Kites workshop is open to children 8 to 12 years old. A materials fee of $8 is due with registration. Please stop in at Depot Gallery or call to register. Class size is limited to 20.
Registrations are accepted at Depot Gallery through 5 pm, Thurs. June 27 or until class limit is met. Call or stop by.
The Red Wing Arts Association is located at 418 Levee St. in the renovated historic railroad depot.
