It's quarter to six and still no playoff pairings
MILWAUKEE - Because the lawsuit brought against the WIAA still is being adjudicated as of 5:45 p.m. with no indication of when it will be resolved either this evening or on Tuesday, prep football teams who have qualified for the playoffs still remain in limbo as to where they will be playing this weekend.
The case involving the Shorewood-Milwaukee Messmer football program's lawsuit against the WIAA for not granting it playoff eligibility was heard in a Milwaukee courtroom starting 2 p.m. this afternoon. The court recessed but then took up another case on its schedule for the remainder of the afternoon. There is no word when the case will be decided so the brackets can be officially announced.
Of Pierce County's playoff teams, Ellsworth is projected to be in Division 3, Spring Valley in Division 6 and Elmwood is in Division 7 regardless of the outcome of the case.
Potential first round match-ups for each team has all three teams with first round road games as unseeded squads with Ellsworth at Mosinee, Spring Valley playing at Minong Northwood/Solon Springs and Elmwood at Greenwood/Granton if the brackets work out in a certain manner.
The Herald will continue to monitor the situation.
