Hertha V. Strusz, 79, of Goodhue died on Thursday morning, Sept. 17, at St. Brigid's at Hi-Park in Red Wing. The funeral service will be today at 7 p.m. at The Mahn Family Funeral Home, Larson Chapel in Zumbrota. The Rev. Andrew Krause will be officiating. Visitation will be held from 5 p.m. until the time of the service at the funeral home.
Hertha Viola Schumacher was born Aug. 28, 1930, in Ashley, N.D., to John and Lydia (nee Schweigert) Schumacher. She graduated from Ashley High School in 1948. After graduating she moved to Minneapolis where she worked for the United States Navy as a telephone operator. Hertha enjoyed going dancing and met her future husband, Harlyn Strusz, on one of her many trips to the dance hall. On Oct. 21, 1967, they were married at St. John's Lutheran Church in rural Goodhue, where they settled down and continued to farm and raise their family. Hertha enjoyed gardening, playing cards, cooking, and attending the Senior Group of Goodhue.
Hertha's survivors include her loving husband of 41 years, Harlyn; two sons, Hilbert (Paula Basham) and Howard both of Goodhue; brother, Raymond Schumacher of Ashley, N.D.; 3 sisters, Gertrude Thayer of Stockton, Calif., Violet Knox of Nebraska, and Alma Smith of Roseville, Calif.; and many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents and her brother Harold.
