Lisa Bruni, vice president of the society board, said that this year’s fundraiser will feature more of a festival feel with vendors, prizes, goodie bags, educational presentations and a scavenger hunt for attendees and their furry friends to enjoy.

The goal is to raise $5,000 while bringing pet owners and animal enthusiasts together for a fun-filled afternoon.

Donations and pledges are currently accepted at the Humane Society or online — through GiveMN.org — at the society’s website www.hsgcpets.org/walk.

Attendees also have the opportunity to donate at the event.

Thanks to event sponsors, 100 percent of money raised will go toward a future remodel of the society’s kennels as well as other needs, Bruni said.

The Humane Society of Goodhue County relies on events such as Bark in the Park and donations throughout the year to provide the best care for rescued animals as they await their future homes.

The Humane Society is currently home to several cats and dogs, including a new litter of puppies, as well as komodo dragons.

“We do not put any animals down,” Bruni said. “They receive the care they need here while they wait for adoption.”

Bark in the Park prizes will be awarded in two different age brackets to those who raise the most money before the event.

A fundraising brochure and pledge sheet are available on Humane Society’s website. Online donations can be collected through the GiveMN.org link there as well.

Bruni said there is a team page set up with Anna Ostendorf, Humane Society director, as team captain.

Individuals wishing to do their own fundraising and compete for the prizes can also set up their page through this Bark in the Park Walk-A-Thon team on GiveMN.org.

More ways to help

Other events for the Humane Society include a garage sale (part of the 100 Mile Garage Sale) and T-shirt fundraiser (through Booster.com).

Gently used items are needed for the sale, which will be May 2-3, and can be dropped off at the shelter, 1213 Brick Ave.
