State’s radon-resistant home builders list tops 100

The Minnesota Department of Health now has 100 builders in its Gold Standard for Radon Resistant New Construction Program, the department announced last week. Builders choosing to participate in the program offer customers a radon fan to reduce buildup of the gas that is the leading cause of lung cancer among nonsmokers.

Around 1 in 5 homes built since 2009 has radon above the recommended action level, and the MDH recommends all new home buyers request a radon fan to be added in the construction process.

For more information on home testing and a list of Gold Standard builders, visit www.health.state.mn.us/radon.
