The team score of 112.75 was lower than any score the Red Wing gymnastics team put up all of last year. But, with a banged-up starters forcing the Wingers to adjust to a whole new lineup, Red Wing’s coaches left the Jeanne Harris Memorial Invitational in Byron with plenty of optimism.

“Actually, it was a wonderful meet for us,” said Wingers co-head coach Lisa Hanson. “We have several gymnasts out at the moment, and every single one of our girls were competing in the all-around. We were thrilled by the results.

“Once we get our team back whole, we are super excited by what our future holds.”

Among Red Wing’s five gymnasts, freshman Mackenzie Irwin had the team’s high mark in the all-around with a score of 29.10.

Jordan Munson was the only Winger to place on Saturday, taking ninth in the floor exercise with a score of 8.05.

Red Wing is not back in action until Dec. 20 at New Prague.
