It was the end of Red Wing's season but the Wingers could not be happier with the way they finished.

"We had a great meet today," Red Wing head coach Megan Latch said. We peaked right at the perfect time. Our goal all season was to get personal bests and season bests. It was obviously our best meet of the season."

Austin will represent Section 1A at the Class 1A state gymnastics meet after taking first with a score of 148.35. La Crescent placed second with a 135.675 and Byron/Lourdes finished third at 134.675. The Packers' Sela Fadness took home the invidiual title in every event Saturday and had a meet-best all-around score of 38.55.

Carlie Sandstrom had the highest all-around score for the Wingers in 18th place with a personal-best 32.15. Molly Hart finished in 19th place with a personal-record 32.025.

Irina Anderson helped Red Wing score its highest team score on the vault with an eighth place finish and a personal-best 9.025. She was seventh on the uneven bars with a personal record 8.45.

"She did a great job today," Latch said of Anderson. "Her focus was there and she was able to show everybody what she could do; show everybody her skill. She just let herself do it today."

Sandstrom scored a season-best 7.55 on the uneven bars and an 8.25 on the balance beam for the Wingers. Shayna Ramstad tallied a personal best 6.625 on the uneven bars while Morgan Hughes had a personal-best 8.6 on the vault.

Red Wing seniors Hart and Kaleigh Owens each provided personal best on the balance beam with an 8.4 and an 8.3, respectively, in the final meet of their high school careers.

"Molly and Kaleigh are irreplaceable to our teams," Latch said. "They've been strong gymnasts and leaders for the girls. We've looked to them for guidance and encouragement. They'll be really hard to replace."

With the improvements the Wingers made from the start of the season to the end, Latch was more than pleased with how her first season at the helm went with Red Wing.

"I don't think it could have gone any better," Latch said. "We had great support from the parents and the gymnasts. Our seniors were fabulous leaders and really helped guide us all season, inside and outside the gym. It's been more than I expected."
