Gymnastics: Red Wing with strong showing at Farmington
Farmington’s 137.575 was enough to get a Missota Conference victory Friday over Red Wing, but the Wingers’ score of 126.35 was a season high.
“We had an awesome meet,” said co-head coach Lisa Hanson. “As a team, we’re really connecting and coming together. They nailed their routines, and aside from some lower bar scores, we were solid all around. This proves how strong they’re becoming, and they keep going up which is what we want to see at this time of the year.”
Irina Anderson led Red Wing on the vault (9.175) with Morgan Hughes a half-point behind at 8.675. All five gymnasts had season bests on the vault.
Anderson also paced the Wingers on the parallel uneven bars with a 7.575, and Hughes led the squad with a personal-best 8.425 on the balance beam.
Hanson also praised Mackenzie Irwin and Anderson on their beam performance, saying “Mackenzie hit some new stuff, and Irina came off a tough floor and right to beam. It was a great thing to see.”
Irwin continued her solid evening with a team-high 8.4 on the floor, while Jordan Munson was right on her heels with an 8.275.
Red Wing will compete again Tuesday in Northfield for a double dual along with Farmington. That contest will wipe out Friday’s meet against Northfield. The Wingers will also host a senior spotlight at home Saturday to showcase the team that competed all season without a home meet.
