The holiday break was anything but refreshing for Red Wing as the Wingers suffered multiple injuries and the depleted squad suffered Friday in a 128.7-115.875 loss to Chaska/Chanhassen at the Red Wing Area Gymnastics Center.

"I think part of it was a short week and the break for the holidays and a lot of girls weren't able to get a few practices in," Red Wing assistant coach Brian Jenson said. "We knew coming into the night it might be hard to get going again and we were short due to injuries."

Junior Carlie Sandstrom provided the Wingers' best performance, finishing second in the all-around competition with a 29.075. She was third on the balance beam with a 7.075. Sophomore Irina Anderson took third in the all-around with a score of 27.95 for Red Wing and placed second on the vault with an 8.675. Sophomore Morgan Hughes secured a personal best on the vault, scoring an 8.275 for fifth place.

Chaska/Chanhassen was led by Rachel Nornes who took first in the all-around with a 31.2. Leah Kutsch finished first on the vault with an 8.95.

The Wingers' captain, senior Molly Hart, was only able to compete on the uneven bars due to a hyperextended knee suffered at practice during the holiday break. Her absence definitely hurt Red Wing's score, Jenson said.

Next up, the Wingers face Farmington Tuesday on the road.
