“I look forward to working with the commissioners,” Heckman said. “I know we won’t always agree on everything, but as long as we can work through those differences I think it will be great.”

Historical Society Board member Keith Fossen said one of the organization’s hopes is for Heckman to grow community involvement with the History Center.

Heckman added that he already is looking to bring vintage baseball games to the county. “I look forward to the county commissioner game,” he said.

Local 4-H wins state award

Goodhue County 4-H received a 2013 Blue Ribbon County award at the annual 4-H convention in February, said Brenda Carlstrom, vice president of the Minnesota 4-H Adult Volunteers Association. The award recognizes counties for outstanding participation in the 4-H organization.

Carlstrom said the award committee commented on a number of events planned and implemented by Goodhue County 4-H when giving out the award.

Commissioners congratulated volunteers for their work.

Meeting watch

Tuesday’s County Board meeting lasted 37 minutes along with a 50-minute closed session. All commissioners were present.
