Goodhue County Board briefs
LEC improvements OK'd
Goodhue County will proceed with $535,000 in improvements, repairs and upgrades to the Law Enforcement Center. Gains in efficiency and reductions in energy use will pay for themselves within 6 ½ years, staff told commissioners at their retreat Monday in Wanamingo.
Some equipment has never worked as well as intended at the 15-year-old building. Some things are worn out.
Board seeks new estimates for work
Goodhue County commissioners indicated they hope to reach a decision in 2013 on the future of vacated public health building, the Citizens Building and even Government Center offices.
A few commissioners lean toward full demolish and then constructing a new Health & Human Service Building, while others wonder if a combination of demolish and renovation is best. Also on the table are selling or leasing the Citizens Building or perhaps shuffling administrative functions to that site.
Commissioners agreed Monday, however, that they need financial estimates before they can move forward. Staff will provide updated construction and demolition costs for review in March.
Monday's workshop lasted 2 ½ hours. All five commissioners attended.
