Golf: Tigers take home triangular
In the first meet of the season, the Lake City girls golf team held off Zumbrota-Mazeppa and Cannon Falls to win its home triangular Friday at Lake City Golf Course. The host Tigers put up a team score of 356, followed by Z-M (377) and Cannon Falls (470).
Taking medalist honors was Lake City's Claire Gruber, who had a balanced round to finish with an 86. Katy Bolduc followed with an 88, while Emily Schmibeno and Erin Pennington had 90 and 92, respectively, for the Tigers.
The Cougars' Molly Lawler and Kari Thoreson both shot 90s to lead the team, while Whitney Ellefson carded a 94. Emily Krohn rounded out the varsity score with a 103.
Leading the Bombers was Maddie Moskal, who shot a 111. Lauren Lecy and Maddie Adel had 118 and 119, respectively, and Callie Loeschke carded a 122.
In the boys' tournament, Lake City came out victorious over visiting Zumbrota-Mazeppa and Cannon Falls. The Tigers capped off their first meet with a team score of 351, while the Cougars (372) and Bombers (380) finished second and third, respectively.
Taking medalist honors was Cannon Falls' Matthew Moskal, who carded a 74, 10 strokes better than Lake City's Sam Klipfel, who shot an 84. But the Tigers' balance made the difference with Garten Haeska and Cory Dick finishing with 88 and 89, respectively. Brandon Veek and Alex Meincke each had 90s.
For Z-M, Nate Debnar led the way with an 89, followed by Isaac Leonard (92), Noah Erickson (94) and Alec Hunstad (97).
Following Moskal for Cannon Falls were Cole Hanson (90), Jackson Barr (105) and Tyler Melhouse (111).
