Golf: Lake City wins, Z-M finishes fourth

The host Tigers had little trouble in taking home the 28th annual Lake City Invitational, shooting a 339.

“The girls played well considering the conditions,” Lake City head coach Steve Randgaard said of the high winds. “Emily played very well, and Brandy, too, for her first competition in two years. It’s nice to have Brandy back in the lineup.”

Emily Schimbeno placed second with an 81, followed by Brandy Geolat’s 84. Lidia Wallerich (87), Lexi Geolat (87) and Erin Pennington (87) rounded out the scoring for the Tigers.

Woodbury took second as a team with a 360, with Stewartville (365), Zumbrota-Mazeppa 368 and Wabasha-Kellogg 390 completing the top five.

The Cougars were led by Whitney Ellefson’s 84 with Kari Thoreson (89), Molly Lawler (91) and Maddie Nyhus (104) also scoring for Z-M.

Stewartville’s McKenzie Olson was the medalist with an 80.

Saturday will have the Tigers at the Mount Frontenac Invitational.
