Key wins from the bottom of its lineup helped Lake City to a 4-3 Hiawatha Valley League win over Stewartville Tuesday in Lake City.

After falling in No. 1 and 2 singles, Grace Dankers and Emily Albright each secured victories at No. 3 and 4, respectively to tie the match. Dankers won 6-3, 6-3, while Albright clinched her match, 6-1, 6-3.

The Tigers took two of three in doubles, with Carley Cronin and Katie Coyle winning No. 2 6-3, 6-2, and Juli Keller and Chloe McElmury clinching No. 3 6-1, 6-3.

Not only was it a key late-season victory for Lake City, it also helped as far as preparing for Section 1A.

“We very well could meet in the playoffs,” said Tigers’ head coach Dave Toole. “The way it’s looking now, we might be seeded five and (Stewartville) may be seeded fourth.”

Lake City travels to Cannon Falls on Thursday.
