Lake City girls tennis got two wins in doubles play on Tuesday, but could not notch a victory in singles competition as the Tigers fell 5-2 to Rochester John Marshall in Lake City.

Lake City’s No. 1 duo of Katie Coyle and Braeden McElmury won 6-3, 6-0 over Elizabeth Parry and Roohi Katarya, and the Tigers’ Erica Hubbard and Lidia Wallerich took No. 2 singles, 6-3, 6-1, over the Rockets’ Avree Limberg and Morgan Streyle.

Carley Cronin and Juli Keller nearly helped Lake City sweep doubles, leading 5-2 in the third set against Makayla Gravenhof and Avery Heldt. But the John Marshall team stormed back to take the third set and the match 6-4, 1-6, 7-5.

“We had good doubles play overall; the girls did well,” said Tigers’ head coach Dave Toole. “Our third doubles was up 5-2 and they weren’t thinking about winning, they were trying not to lose. When you’re up 5-2, you have to put the hammer down.”

Lake City returns to the court Thursday against New Life Academy at Tartan Park in Lake Elmo.
