Girls Swimming: Red Wing beats New Prague; third at Tartan
Red Wing girls swimming and diving rebounded from a rough showing on Tuesday, picking up a Missota Conference dual victory against New Prague, 97-84, Thursday at Montgomery Middle School.
The Wingers’ first win came via the 200-yard medley relay, as Hannah Kolsky, Ashley Thompson, Carly Boisen and Claire King won with a time of 2 minutes, 7.26 seconds.
The wins continued to pile up as Red Wing won three of the next four races. Nina Kriese (2:17.96), Thompson (2:28.39) and Ingrid Olson (25.79) had wins in the 200 freestyle, 200 individual medley and 50 freestyle, respectively.
Boisen put the Wingers back on the board with a first-place time of 59.59 in the 100 freestyle. Olson got her second individual win of the night, taking the 500 freestyle (5:46.01) by over 20 seconds. Kolsky (1:12.75) tallied Red Wing’s last individual win, taking the 100 backstroke in 1:12.75.
The 200 freestyle relay of Boisen, Olson, Thompson and Kriese secured another relay victory, taking the 200 freestyle relay at 1:51.63.
Saturday, the Wingers head to Inver Grove Heights to take part in the Simley Invitational at the Veterans Memorial Community Center.
Red Wing 3rd at Tartan
Red Wing pieced together two victories in Tuesday’s Tartan triangular at Oakdale as the Wingers took third with 83 points.
Hastings won the triangular with 132 points, clipping host Tartan, which finished with 115.
Getting the wins for Red Wing were Ingrid Olson (50-yard freestyle) and Ashley Thompson (100 breaststroke), who both took top honors in 26.42 seconds and 1:14.29, respectively. Olson also took third in the 100 backstroke (1:09.43), and Thompson was third in the 200 individual medley (2:29.27).
Allison Byrne also placed third in diving (139.60), Claire King was third in the 100 freestyle (1:01.62), and Carly Boisen took bronze in the 100 butterfly (1:09.23). The 200 medley relay (2:04.62) and 200 freestyle relay (1:52.69) also took home third-place finishes.
