Girls Soccer: Hard-luck Wingers fall to New Prague
A string of unfortunate events worked against Red Wing’s favor on Tuesday as the Wingers dropped a Missota Conference match at New Prague, 2-1.
Red Wing got a goal in the 24th minute on a penalty kick by Maddie Erie, but later in the game, Erie and fellow senior Stacey Rother were injured, with both captains sitting out in the second half.
The Trojans managed to tie the game, 1-1. Then, according to Red Wing co-head girls soccer coach Paul McNamee, the center referee overruled the coaches and assistant referees and started the overtime period on New Prague’s field, which has no lights. During the extra period, the Trojans scored the game-winning goal on a free kick.
On Thursday, the Wingers play their regular-season finale at home against Chanhassen for Senior Night.
