Goodhue native crowned Princess Kay of the Milky Way

Girls Golf: Red Wing holds off Lake City

Even with some of its top players not competing due to prom, the Red Wing girls golf team was able to sneak past Lake City to pick up a victory in the Mount Frontenac invitational on Saturday afternoon.

Led by medalist Stephanie Herzog’s five-over par round of 76, the Wingers finished with a score of 334, beating the Tigers’ 335. Eastview (350), Park of Cottage Grove (354), Providence Academy (361), Northfield (362) and Visitation (375) made up the rest of the team scores.

Following Herzog’s round, Red Wing’s Sophia Yoemans carded an 83, followed by an 87 from Leah Herzog and an 88 from Solveig Christenson.

For Lake City, Lexi Geolat led the team with an 81. Claire Gruber (83), Erin Pennington (85) and Emily Schimbeno (86) also contributed to the team score.

Eastview’s Kari Opatz finished with a 79 to finish second individually. Making up the rest of the top five was Park’s Anna Keys (79), Visitation’s Anni Heck (80) and Geolat.

The Wingers’ next meet is scheduled for Tuesday at Elk River, while the Tigers are scheduled to compete in Wabasha-Kellogg on Thursday.
