The Wingers were down by four with two minutes left in the game but made the climb back in a game that had “half a dozen” lead changes, according to Red Wing head coach Dave Muelken.

Up by four in the final minute, Norvet got the ball behind the arc and made it a three-possession game. The senior captain finished the night with 13 points and six assists.

“She had the confidence to take that shot and she hit a big one,” Dave Muelken said of Norvet’s 3-pointer. “That took care of it from there.

“We had a pretty balanced attack and the girls played hard. Albert Lea shot the ball really well. It was a good challenge for us.”

McKenzie Muelken led Red Wing with 24 points and nine rebounds, while McKayla “Bubba” Muelken added 10 in the victory. Maddie Faas came up with four points and seven boards in what Dave Muelken described as “her best game of the year.” Hailey Kuhl came up with three points, four rebounds and four assists.

Playing her first game of the year after injuring her shoulder during volleyball season, McKenzie Cota chipped in with one point, three rebounds and an assist.

“She played really good defense and was all over the floor tonight,” Dave Muelken said of Cota. “It was good to get her back in there.”

The Wingers (3-1) continue with non-conference game on Saturday when they play host to Winona.
