Girls Basketball: Wildcats climb back to beat La Crescent
Down by double digits in the first half, Goodhue knew it had to do two things to climb back against La Crescent on Thursday.
“A thing we’ve stressed all year is to finish the first half strong and start the second half strong,” said Wildcats’ head coach Josh Wieme.
The Wildcats managed to cut the Lancers’ lead to one at halftime, and Goodhue managed to pull away in the second half to take the Hiawatha Valley League win 63-53 in La Crescent.
Mikayla Miller had a game-high 27 points for the Wildcats to go with six rebounds and four steals. Shelby Hinsch finished with 13 points, Kali Ryan had eight, and Megan Ryan put in seven points in the victory. Meredith Watson cleaned up on the glass with 10 rebounds.
“Everybody got in on (the scoring),” Wieme said. “You get that kind of balanced production, things go well for you.”
Jen Michalke and Katie Waller each scored 23 points for the Lancers.
The Wildcats (19-5, 12-4) wrap up the regular season next week, starting on the road against Triton on Tuesday and with the regular-season finale Feb. 21 against Zumbrota-Mazeppa.
