It was all over for sixth-seeded Zumbrota-Mazeppa before they knew it.

The Cougars missed their first 12 shots and third-seeded Dover-Eyota opened Thursday’s Section 1AA-West quarterfinal game with a 13-0 lead on the way to a 56-43 victory in Dover.

“It couldn’t have started any worse for us,” said Z-M head coach Scott Paukert, who saw his team shoot 23 percent from the field (13 of 56).

Paukert added, “We did come back and get it to within 10 in the second half. … It was just a disappointing way to end the season, but we kept battling and we didn’t roll over or anything. We got eight seniors, so it’s a tough way to end it.”

In her final game, Carley Henning led the Cougars with 13 points and eight rebounds. Junior Tayler Mort had nine points in the loss.

The host Eagles got a double-double from Megan Hintz with 24 points and 14 rebounds. Madison Nelson added 13 points in the victory.

Dover-Eyota (22-3) continues postseason play at 7:30 p.m. Monday at the Mayo Civic Center against No. 2 seed Hayfield.

Z-M ends the season at 11-13 overall.
