Girls Basketball: Farmington holds off Red Wing down the stretch
Alicia Hett had 16 points and hit a back-breaking 3-pointer, and two free throws down the stretch, as Farmington was able to keep its distance from Red Wing Friday night in a 54-48 Missota Conference victory.
McKenzie Muelken led the Wingers with 20 points and six rebounds. McKayla Muelken had six points, four rebounds and two steals. McKenzie Cota and Morgan Zebro each chipped in six points while Kara Norvet added four points, seven rebounds and five assists.
“Kara really played a solid game,” said Red Wing head coach Dave Muelken.
The Wingers held a one-point lead at the half until the Tigers hit a couple of 3-pointers to pull ahead. And after Red Wing failed to catch up, Farmington had little trouble closing the game out from the free-throw line.
“They hit a big three, and we ended up having to foul and they went 10 of 11 at the line to seal the deal,” Muelken said. “They just didn’t miss down the stretch.”
Red Wing (6-12 overall, 2-6 Missota) has a three-game week coming up, starting with a home date against Holy Angels Tuesday, followed by visits to Byron on Thursday and Northfield on Friday.
